Development and Peace ? Caritas Canada is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada. We were founded in 1967 by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. We are the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis, a global confederation of over 160 Catholic organizations.
We promote international solidarity by educating and mobilizing Canadians and partnering with local organizations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Our community development programs focus on:
- Democracy and citizen participation
- Ecological justice
- Justice for women
- Peace and reconciliation
Our programs and humanitarian aid projects in over 30 countries have a positive impact on about 15 million people every year.
In Canada, we organize campaigns to raise awareness on the root causes of global poverty and injustice and inspire actions for change.
